FBI offers $20K reward for suspect wanted in arson attack at Atlanta ICE building

FBI investigating reported attack on ICE building in downtown Atlanta (FBI Atlanta)

ATLANTA — The FBI is asking for the public’s help identifying a man accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in downtown Atlanta.

Federal investigators are offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.

According to the FBI, the incident happened around 8:14 p.m. Tuesday at the ICE field office on Ted Turner Drive.

Investigators say the man threw a Molotov cocktail at the building before fleeing the scene.

The FBI has released surveillance photos of the suspect, who was seen wearing tan pants, a dark-colored shirt and glasses. He also appeared to be carrying a bag.

No injuries were reported, and the building sustained only minor damage.

Atlanta police and FBI agents collected and reviewed evidence at the scene Tuesday night. Federal investigators are continuing to examine surveillance footage and work to determine a motive.

The building houses ICE’s Atlanta field office, holding cells and Atlanta’s immigration court.

This is not the first time the facility has been targeted.

According to federal prosecutors, a group of protesters climbed a fence outside the building during the summer of 2020 and allegedly threw rocks, cinder blocks and Molotov cocktails at the facility.

That incident caused nearly $80,000 in damage.

The FBI is urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts to contact Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS, call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI, or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.

The investigation remains ongoing.
